Nice red fruit with some earthy secondary characteristics, a bit of baking spice. Opened up a bit in a relatively narrow decanter and then faded after 5 hours.

Good secondary characteristics (some leather and earth), cherry fruit, acid. Improved after an hour of air. Are its best days behind it? Maybe so, but still a compelling wine with food.

Oregon Pinot Tasting - Boerne Wine Club: At BWC event. The ringer in the group of Oregon pinots. Held its own, was my third on the list for the evening. Excellent dark raspberry and mineral notes on nose. Nice lighter raspberry, cherry notes with a damp earth aspect. Very good finish.

BWC oregon: Very ripe, sorta secondary flavors, with just a hint of residual oak. Despite the ripeness, this actually drinks more elegantly than it would suggest, but just a bit of heat in the finish detracts in the end.

Quite a bit different than the bottle I had a couple of months ago. Not super aromatic, but what's there gives off a pleasant sense of perfume. On the palate, nicely balanced. Good fruit depth with just the right amount of counterbalancing acidity. Unlike the last bottle, which seemed over the hill, this one seems like it could've lasted another 5 years.

Pop/pour. Pretty tight. Better with 30 minutes in the glass. Fairly heavy in terms of mouth feel, perhaps just slightly short on the fruit given that. Seems slightly out of balance to me. I suspect this might have been better a couple years ago. Certainly drinkable now, but not worth the tariff in its present form.

The fruit, or at least most of it, is still there, but for me it is now too tart, both in the mid palate and the finish. Nine years is really a stretch for a Cal PN.

Has aged well, first bottle in a few years. Last one of this vintage. Powerful nose when first opened - picked it up from a few feet away when it was poured! Fragrant red berries - nose matches the flavor of the wine exactly.
A little hot when first open, blew off in about 20 minutes. Dark fruit, cranberry, strawberry, candied fruit, spice. A real fruit bomb. Not for those who only like Oregon or Burgundy - California/Carneros style all the way through. I am fortunate to like both styles - this one is distinctly new world - syrupy fruit bomb...If I had more, would try to give this at least an hour decant.
Drinking well now with a few years ahead of it.

Aging very well, strong sappy black fruit flavor highlighted by some very nicely integrated french oak. Medium to Full bodied with soft to medium range of tannins. Graceful Pinot that's showing much younger than its years. I think this could easily go another 10.

Stunning California PN. What stands out is the purity of the black cherry and dark raspberry fragrance and flavor. Not especially complicated but it doesn't matter. Lightly oaked. Beatiful balance and the additional bottle age has made it textually smooth and luscious.

This was a great bottle of wine. It shows how a great strutured Pinot can age and provide a nice integrated wine. This is what I hoped for it was worth the waite!

This has evolved just as I had hoped. The vaguely harsh finish has resolved, leaving behind a richly fruited bottle of pleasure. The black cherry and raspberry bouquet is precisely repeated on the palate, framed by judicious oak. Very Califonia in style, no sense of place, simple, yet totally enjoyable for what it is.

Decanted for three hours plus. Beautiful eucalyptus & red berry aromas, which conveys to the mouth equally well. Has the typical Etude acidic bite that adds the necessary balance. This can lay sideways for another four or five years easy.

As I taste more American pinot's I am beginning to love those from two areas - Carneros and Anderson valley. they have similar characteristics - nose jumps out of the glass, bright red fruits mostly, and, nice acidity with low alcohol. This baby fits right into that mold. Very much lighter on it's feet than some of the racier, higher alcohol, highly extracted pinots, but very much more delicate and balanced.

Huge rich hedonistic fruit bomb of a Pinot from Etude's Heirloom vines. Dark royal purple color. Aromas of spicy exotic dark red berries. Dark cherries, prickley raspberries and some purple fruit too. Plums, rasins. Unique perfume of Asian spice laced with loads of slow roasted meat...almost a little Syrah-like. Dark purple flowers and some cool root vegetable components. Lower acidity and tannins with moderate high alcohol. Palate is lasting lush and totally opulent. Loved this Pinot from Etude. A little more balance and depth than the '03 overall. Bravo!

A good example of Carneros pinot. Nose is tart cherry, cranberry, and citrus. Earthy, loamy raspberry and cranberry dominate the palate. Good, and well made, but one dimensional.

Oddly, this bottle, while prefectly sound, refused to loosen up and show its charm. At first, I assumed that was because it was too cold, but an hour in the glass evoked no change. Can Cali pinot noir close down? Still, the depth of flavor and concentration could be felt more than tasted and I'm confident it will come around, so I'll score it optomistically.

Decanted an hour, great nose of spices, cranberry and cherries, not nearly as big as many cali pinots, smooth finese on the palate with just a touch of acidity, very elegant, burgundian in style, 45 second finish, and outstanding wine.

I tend not to be a fan of Cali pinots, but this was more Burgundy than Cali. Decanted for about 30 min before consuming. A hint of spice on the nose, but not much more. Dark (for a pinot) and medium bodied with a nice mouthfeel. Lots of cherry fruit and well structured. Not cloying. A touch of acidity that dropped off as the bottle was consumed. Doesn't have the long finish that Burgundies can have, but it was longer than the other Cali pinots I've had. Overall, a very enjoyable wine, probably the be

Splendid Cal pinot. More reserved, more defined than most, it could do with another year or two to coax more out of the quiet nose. Clearly a big step up from the very good Etude basic pinot noir. Great texture, velvety, lots of punch in the mid-palate and finishes strong. This is the most Burgundian Cal PN I have tasted so far and maybe the best.

I think I made a mistake opening this so young - damn! Hot, hot, hot best describes this wine right now. I decanted it for about 45 minutes but could not get past the heat. I have one more bottle left - the plan is tp let it rest for a couple more years.

Poured straight from bottle. Intoxicating strawberry, cherry and raspberry aromas intermix with spices (clove?). It's a pinot you cant get your nose out of - and when you do, the smell wafts its way around the room. Super silky tannins, abundant berries on the palate and a minute long finish make this one of the finest Etude pinots I've tasted. (93-95)
