  • This was a great bottle. The 8th of 12. When I say great I am not comparing it to the previous 7. It had a quality unique to itself. Each great left bank Bordeaux I have had has had the same quality. The best way I can explain that quality is to say the bouquet and the taste both shared a clarity and intensity that is like the ring of a bell. I shared this description with Eric L. a while ago and he seemed to find those words appropriate to his experience. I was actually saying to Eric not one of the 1982 Leoville Las Cases I tasted rang that bell. They were all wonderful but did not rise to this separate standard. This bottle did. I knew it had the moment I pulled the cork. Arms' length away the bouquet was in my nose instantaneously. The first sip had the same great quality. My wife said on the first sip, "Great wine!" We were remembering the few others of this sublime quality. By the second glass the sound of that bell had softened. Glorious but soft. The bouquet of the empty glass was of course also softer than the opening. A great wine. One never knows when this will happen.

  • A lot of youthful intensity and nubile fruit, nevertheless very accessible. Harmonious and seamless, in the beginning of its drinking curve, only upside from here. Cassis, smoke, green elements and hints of oak spice gradually melting into the mix. Nicely fresh profile, good lengthy finish. Lagrange is never the most complex wine but pushes clearly above its price point and excels in its class. This is even better than 1990 and 1996. Generally speaking (and here too) the 2000 left bank Bdx vintage has always been acclaimed but could it be even better than anticipated? If 2010 was a great but a solar year, could the 2000 be the last truly great vintage?

  • Disappointing performance considering previous bottles tasted of this vintage. Nice bouquet though, but disjointed on the palate with dried and slightly greenish fruit, light body, and a surprisingly short finish. An odd bottle?

  • Cork broke, decanted through an aerator for 2 hr.
Vibrant medium(+) ruby, bright ruby rim, barely translucent, narrowly spaced legs !13% abv,
Nose of red fruit, barnyard, cedar, earth notes; slightly perfumed Bordeaux aromas.
Dry, medium-medium(+) acidity, medium ripe tannins and medium(+) body. Complex palate of blueberry, baked cherries, chocolate notes, leather. Beautifully balanced, displays freshness and youthfulness, slick silky texture, luscious. Long well-defined tightly-bound and elegant finish. Fantastic ***
    At/nearing peak drinking window.
With Porterhouse steak, enjoyed with Mees and Francine.

(Lagrange) Stunning nose of cocoa, leather, mint, bbq sauce, menthol, asian spice. Very aromatically precise. Almost like a solid in the mouth. Great density and weight but still retains elegance. It was amazing how big how many of the 2000's were but what was more amazing was how much elegance they had. They all punched you in the face, but you saw it coming in very slow motion. Remarkable - - this vintage.
