Opened about an hour before drinking. A brighter, healthier garnet colour. Again, classic orange peel and bright red fruit. Good acidity and a silky texture. Very good but not great mature rioja. Holds well over 90 mins without any fading. Subtle fireside, coffee and spice box flavours through the mid palate. Positive medium-length finish. Bare ****

Another beautiful bottle. Even silkier and more open fruit than the last. Loads of sweet cherry, leather and sultry texture on the palate. Drinking just fine. No rush.

This time had with paella. And frankly, maybe it was the smells of the kitchen, maybe it was the moment, but from the time that cork was pulled everything was all-right.

The fruit and tannins have subsided and the wine has mellowed. It is amazingly smooth and delicate - showing the characteristics of age in a pleasing way. Usually, I am not a fan of really old wine, but this was a very graceful exception.

Another night with the 1970, and if anything, even better than before.
