Gang of 4 Sweet Lake Farewell tasting (@ RW): To start with the conclusion: This is truly great and in a great drinking moment now! Powerful dark berries, smoke, licorice, cedar, pencil shavings and spices in the bouquet. Same on the palate, beautiful and juicy acidity, minerals, some pleasant sweet licorice, good acidity and round tannin with still enough bite for some more years. But this wine is at its peak and in a perfect drinking stage.

Hamilton Blind Group: [Tasted Double Blind] This pours deep tawny in the glass with medium plus bricking. The nose is just lovely, wide open, mature and complex. In my view there is some clear brett character that adds rather than detracts. Initially the non-fruit character dominates, but as this gains air the lovely and optimally ripe fruit emerges. Aromas are of old leather, tobacco, farmyard, a plethora of dried flowers, dried dark cherry, and a touch of band-aid. Just gorgeous classical stuff. The palate enters on lovely dried dark cherry, with medium minus tannin, and medium acid. The finish closes nicely on tar, dried cherries, and tobacco. Just a touch of alcohol pokes through on the finish and is not at all obtrusive. My guess was a 1999 Margaux. Not bad. My WOTN.

Opened quite well, but not with quite the finesse of my last bottle (drink late 2021). A little bit of (alcohol?) heat on the finish which was a little surprising. Bottle variation maybe. Still, enjoyable if not at the level I hoped.

2004 Bordeaux at 20 years courtesy of Mark Taylor; 3/23/2024-3/24/2024 (Atlanta, GA): Scorchy, also some bretty/earthy stuff going on, cedar, wow very pleasing, round, balanced, very pretty, very complete, really in sync. My #4 and the group #1. Guessed incorrectly as Malescot.

Very very nice classic elegant Bordeaux. Very nice drinking window and will also hold longer but don‘t think it will improve.
