VK1983 her; Wagner-Stempel GG & Languedoc: DnP Medium dark red, reddish tinged, 6 Shy bouquet, some rustic sulfury notes, difficult to get much from Somewhat aggressiv acididty, mT, hA, mB, dry, some dark fruit here but don't seem in balance. Perhaps a partly off bottle? No rating

Dark garnet. Pronounced nose - plumb, cassis, liquorice, strawberry, liqueur cherry, chocolate, garrigue herbs, earth, cinnamon spice. Dry palate, medium acidity, med+ alcohol, chalky medium tannins, flavours not as pronounced as on the nose, med+ finish although I find the alcohol slightly sticks out. This is very good quality but not one for the long haul - based on these two bottles I’d suggest drinking by end of 2025. The fruit on the palate may be fading a little and it hasn’t taken on any more complexity recently. Enjoyable as always and, particularly if bought en primeur, relatively good value.

Medium garnet. Pronounced nose - ripe and baked cassis, dark cherry, plum, spice, honey, lavender, thyme, garrigue, earth. Developing. Dry, medium acidity, medium ripe tannins, med alcohol, full body, long finish. This bottle was on top form and drinking better that the previous two. Perhaps because we were in France and had visited the domaine the previous day. But seems to have put on some flesh. Excellent.

Final bottle, notes as before with just a little less tartness to it, this has and can go on, but what would it achieve, it has hardly shifted in all these years. Decent wine in its category but not one I would pay that price for again, better value out there.

A magnificent Mas de Daumas Gassac vertical from the private cellars of Allard Jakobs (Restaurant Sinck, Amsterdam, NL): Magnum. Typical for the vintage, well developed fruit, even a bit of liqueur, fresh and transparent and floral, but the tannins are - predictably - a bit dry and chalky.
