Mid-neck level. Cork noted to be solidly in place, removed intact via Durand. Cork edge purple with no seepage noted beyond the corks edge. Slow ox for 2 hours and poured with an aerator.. Color- translucent edge leading to opaque garnet with a purple tinge. Nose noted to be complex with sense of sweet red fruit/strawberry, chocolate, sweet savory spice, with a touch of licorice and vanilla (no element of smokiness was noted with this bottle). The nose however, despite the complexity, was somewhat muted (?still a bit closed). Palate - Rich red/dark red fruit (predominantly strawberry and ripe cherry), with hint of chocolate, and savory herbs. Medium to full bodied, with lush-light- silky mouthfeel , and ending with mouth coating, but soft, tannins, Wine was easy to drink, with fresh acidity, elegance, and beautiful balance which improved with time. Started with an early 94/95 scoring which I brought up to 96 with time as all of the wines elements came together.
An Exploration of 2009 St. Emilions (plus a few bonuses) (Los Olivos, CA): Non-blind. Another stellar showing, even better than one enjoyed 2-1/2 years ago. An opulent powerhouse, loaded with dark red fruit. Some smoky notes added complexity. All purity and balance, with lifted black fruit notes and good length.

Decanted for 1 hour. Strong and powerful with loads of blackberry, violet, wood. Oaky and full body. Long finishing.

Decanted about 2 hours. Nice nose and evolving palate over the following couple hours until gone. Drank like a more mature Bordeaux.
