This is the last of 8 bottles I bought in 2010 in a Carrefour supermarket discounted from 65,00 to 48,00€ (try finding a bottle of a recent vintage at this price!). My experiences were mixed: a few bottles tasted soon after purchase were hard as nails, and more impressive rather then really tasty. Following bottles seemed to soften a bit but remained very closed and unyielding. Fortunately this last bottle is the best of them all: a very impressive opaque color with little evolution, still slightly closed on the nose but with an authentic Pauillac bouquet strongly dominated by the Cabernet Sauvignon (approx.62% with 32% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) with cassis, tobacco, graphite and underbrush and weighty on the palate with a lot of tannines and nice acidity. It still lacks charm and generosity, but this can be expected in this (in my opinion) rather mediocre and hard vintage. I was refilling my cellar when they came on the market and bought far to much wines of this vintage based on the positive comments of some critics. Maybe my score is too conservative for the moment and might increase with a few points after several years of cellaring, but I am not sure at all.

I am often disappointed with Pontet Canet and this time was no different. Read some nice reviews so I bought a couple bottles. Decanted around an hour and drank slow. Nose was very nice. Typical Paulliac with cassis, graphite and some black fruits. Palate was almost dead. Nothing in the middle and kind of aggressive acid on the finish. Maybe needs more time? Feel like this wine is over hyped, commanding almost second growth money, but I am usually not impressed. I actually like 06 Bordeaux but not this one.
Best showing of 2006 PC in years but still not a great wine. Strong cassis taste but a little linear, shortish blackcurrant finish. Lacks length and complexity

The 06 is very lush with cassis and almost a little sweet cream to it. Perfectly integrated tannins, and smooth. Mouthfeel is beautiful and velvety.
