  • Bordeaux 2022 barrel samples and some additional vintages (Solliden in Stockhom): Powerful but bitter/green. So heavy and difficult. This is not according to my preferences. I recommend trying before ordering more than one bottle.

    Bordeaux en primeur 2022 tasting.

The drinking experience today is lower but I give it a generous 90p because of the power and the early stage.

  • Deep purple with a blue hue in color, the wine is almost opaque in color. Cassis, flowers, plums, licorice, and tobacco leaf aromas adorn the perfume. It is already clear that with this wine, it is the purity in the fruit that stands out. The palate is equally pure, with its layers of glycerin-filled blackberries, and plums. The wine is lush, as well as refined. The finish meshes concentration with elegance, power with purity, lift and length. The peppery, spicy note, along with the resounding minty-freshness, and a touch of anise in the long, finish is what stands out here. There is no sensation of heat or over ripeness in this wine in the mid-palate or in the finish. The wine blends 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot.14.7% ABV, pH 3.8. Harvesting took place September 8 - September 28. This is longest harvest and the earliest harvest in the history of the estate. The wine is aging in a combination of 50% new, French oak, and 35% Amphora. Pontet Canet is often a slow starter in barrel. My score could go higher when the wine is in bottle. Drink from 2028-2060. 96-98 Pts.

Grosses Pontet-Canet Kino. 2030-2060 (Verkostet "En Primeur" im April 2023 auf Château Pontet-Canet) #primeurs22 www.vvWine.ch

  • En Primeur campaign for the 2022 vintage Day Four (Bordeaux): Short note - For me this was over-extracted and over-worked to the point of undrinkability. Read the below if you want a more detailed diatribe/rant

Longer note - Medium plus intensity aromas of concentrated (to the point of bitter savouriness) black fruits; blackcurrant especially but touches of plums, oaky spices, dried woody notes and a little baked earth on the nose. Ripe concentrated black fruits and woody, though smoothy textured, tannins smash around the mouth like two cars trying to squeeze into the same tiny parking spot. With time the fruit appears to win the fight by beating the tannins into submission with an alcohol based nightstick. the tannins then park their ugly wooden vehicle on top of the fruit. Pretty awful over-extracted stuff. One for the masochists and I'm no masochist. Pontet Canet appears to be striving to be the Pavie of the Left Bank.

  • I didn’t check flawed in order to better alert this note: Unfortunately the wine has Brett. The En Premier campaign staff weren’t tasting the wines before presenting- and this was not the only estate. Minor Blue cheese was the identification.

Removing that, the wine is modern, deep and dark. While that is an enjoyable style for me, I do prefer more nuanced terrior.

I can’t separate the lack of quality control- either during the winemaking process, bottling, unwilling to test samples before presenting, etc. Did this occur with only the EP samples or will it end up in final bottling… the hope is isolated incident in EP bottling but will not know for another couple years.
