Deep gold colour with notes of ripe peach, mango, passionfruit, honeydew melon, wet stones, developed very well with intense aromas of almond, walnut, honey, vanilla, cinnamon. Rich and oily texture, full body with medium plus acidity. Nice length finish although not as rich and intense as on the nose and palate. It also has some sherry-like bitterness on the finish. At its peak now and will stay there for a while. Delicious.

A clean and fresh experience, deep, vibrant and elusive the 2005 Bannockburn also delivers subtle butterscotch and vanilla. A beautiful wine with brilliant acidity and superb balance. Compared to 2008 and 2010 Block 2 Chardonnays tasted alongside, this 2005 Bannocburn is not as complex or as razor sharp, but still it is a beautiful wine which certainly deserves some merit.

Bright lemon yellow colour. Pineapple, lemon and oak in the nose. Lemony fruit, weighty and lacking complexity. Crisp enough, but short and bitter finish. Overpriced

Mine, at a blind tasting. Initial sulphur. V long, ripe yellow apple. Vanilla. Posh balsamic note. High quality oak; if not fully integrated yet. Quite drying. Later, some fine, lifted lemon and softer fruit. Trace butter. A tighter, more acidic, version of the ’99 Puligny at the same tasting. A concern is the screwcap – can it evolve properly now that it has exhausted its oxygen? 91 now.

New Zealand Offline to welcome Mark Henderson to Manchester (Manchester): This is a real powerhouse on the nose: sweaty, cheesy, smokey chardonnay with a hint of poire william. In the mouth, it's big and creamy, with lots of ripe fruit. It's pretty powerful stuff, but retains good balance. Quite concentrated fruit towards the finish.
