This was a maaassive beast. Everything was big about it; tannins alcohol and all. Does not score points for elegance no doubt. Deep black cherry fruits, deep violets and a whiff of liquorice and tar. I feel the stuffing here but I wish this had gone a little easier on me. Also, it might take a long time to come around, if at all.

La Festa del Barolo: A Taste of Verduno (Locanda Verde): The wine of the tasting and really just phenomenal. It’s beautiful and elegant and fresh and bright with some darker fruits. There’s this lightness and yet so much flavor to it. Slightly drying tannin right at the end. Not going anywhere anytime soon - this seems to have a decent life ahead of it but it is drinking quite nicely now.

This was decanted for four hours before consumption on night one and it was absolutely hard as nails that whole night long, so I didn't even bother writing a note. Enjoyment was ~90 points, with most of that being with an eye to the future. It was just all structure and compactness... everything was present but hiding. Note taken on day two, with a full 24 hours open to air in the decanter: Much more expressive today, but till incredibly primary. The aromas show typical beautiful notes of dried flowers, which are very pretty, as well as some hot road tar. There's Barolo for ya... very classic, but very tight and slightly spicy (chili flake?). Palate is cranberries, raspberries, and strawberries (all without seeds, if you can imagine it), but then when you hold it in the mouth the tannins build quickly covering the fruit. The medium grained, gritty tannins hit pretty hard on the finish, but then you get a fresh bloom of bing cherry meat (no skin on that cherry), with more fresh roses here. The tannins are robust. The acidity is integrated and deft. This is most certainly drinking way better on day two, but note to myself: DO NOT drink more of these for some time... it's somewhat enjoyable on day two, whereas day one was just intellectual and not really pleasurable. It still scoffs at me on day two for drinking it so young, though. Day two does tell me it has all the elements, though, they're just all very very compact. I'm thinking I shouldn't open another for 10-15 years... but realistically maybe I'll go another 7 years, with a long decant. The wine had declined in a negative way by day three, turning brown and tasting slightly oxidized.

Adjusting cellar status, forgot to remove and to make a tn. Remember it to be pretty tough with powerful structure and drying tannins. Great fruit although it seems to struggle against the firm overall experience. Not as convinced as before whether this is a wine for the long haul.

Decanted three hours, Riedel vinum Burgundy glass. This seemed rounded and ready, with sweet Burgundian notes and some spice. Still tannic.
