Pours rusty garnet with a dark ruby core and heavy bricking at the rim. Nose is still vibrant, with ripe cherry, plum, cigar box, violet, loam, some saddle leather, and a touch of dusty library. Initially the palate was slightly subdued, but after 20 minutes it was open for business, following the nose, and retaining a nice edge of acidity. Peak drinking to my taste, and could probably go another two or three years without losing that beautiful ripeness.

Stumbled upon a small stash for $25 (you read that right) at a local retailer this afternoon and of course had to open one with steak tips. Reputable shop from which I’ve purchased other older bottles - the owner occasionally liquidates stuff he’s tired of drinking.
High fill, pulled the cork around Noon and let it sit until dinner. Tobacco leaf, red fruits and some cedar aromatically, this is absolutely seamless on the palate. Took a sip early and it was showing some tannic bite, but several hours of slow ox coaxed this into a perfect drinking window. All in harmony - tons of fruit left. Well stored bottles like this have years to run though it obviously is a mature wine.

Bought from an auction, wine was excellent. Needed a little time to open up, after about 30 mins in the glass it was singing. Some slight browning on the edges. Tannins have been resolved. Still vibrant with fruit, blackberry, spice, tobacco. I’d drink sooner rather than later, but that’s just my opinion.

Acidic. Needs long decant. Still alive with fruit. Slight dirt smell. Slight complexity.
