From magnum. Sweet and open nose and dark fruit, earth and iodine. Carried through to the palate. Brownish but still very alive and didn’t fade even after two hours in the glass.

Bought on release. Kept at 55 since then. Beautiful, enjoyed with tenderloin and Cabernet reduction. Wish I had NOT drunk so many early—- only one left.

Sourced through Winebid to celebrate a 40th birthday. Even though this wine was still alive, there must have been storage issues as the wine expressed a more dull bouquet that previously experienced in smaller formats over the last several years. I had really wished this double mag would have displayed the greatest of this wine/vintage, but unfortunately it was an average experience last weekend.

Birth year bottle enjoyed tonight. Cork withdrawn intact using Ah-So. Cork was not dehydrated or soaked. Dark black, soiled about 20 percent of the way up. The wine poured a dark maroon with slight violet tint. No browning initially noted. The nose was meaty, a bit vegetal. Showed a lot of age. The entry of this wine was at first bolder aged fruits, and then went to a dried red and black fruits. Smoky and somewhat of an "au jus" middle. A little savory. Tobacco leaf and some black tea . Finish is where some fig, a hint of plum kind of showed. Grit on the finish. As this wine sat open, it started to lose its fruit, and was just about gone in 2-3 hours. What a treat!

2nd place for the night among ten high-end Napa cabs with average age of ten years. A special wine with all the textbook Napa cab qualities. The only downside is the lack of superior complexity that mountain fruit shows in a similar vintage. Just FYI, WOTN was a 1988 Dunn Howell. I can only assume the reviews below (sub 90 points) were due to poor storage.
