  • Classic, bright, with mushroom, earth, and library book. Delicate, medium bodied and resolved with red fruit. Great!

  • Pyrazines for days. Eventually some red fruit pops through. Past peak for sure but still very drinkable. Enjoyable with food.

  • Purchased at auction. High shoulder fill. Sediment was all at the base which tells me this wasn’t always stored properly. Cork was saturated (could barely read it) and began to crumble, but Durand removed it without much trouble. Color was slightly cloudy light garnet with some browning. Smelled strongly of campfire and burnt rubber; another taster noted olive brine and smoked meats. Tasted of strangely sweet smoke to me, and not much else. Was this bottle salvaged from a fire damaged property? I’m not sure how to explain the overwhelming smoke taint here, as aeration and extended decanting didn’t blow it off.

  • Top shoulder fill. The usual thick mold on top of the cork but otherwise cork in good condition. Pnp. Very slight off smell upon pulling the cork but blows of quickly. Surprisingly young light and clear garnet with only the slightest browning towards the rim. Forest floor on the nose. On the palate there is still some dark fruit, and wow some pencil lead and iron too, still good balance on the medium body. Again some forest floor. Fairly short finish, but hey, this is a mid tier Bordeaux at age 56. More Pauillac than Margaux in style if one can still talk about style at that age.

  • The cork was protruding in a rather unpleasant fashion (think chimps arse) and reeked of TCA which caused considerable concern but, with the help of the Durand, the offending article was removed.
Aromas of earth, leather, red currant, mushroom, Autumn leaves, horse sweat, sweet spice, slight cream and a bit of cellar stink (which blew off). Over the drinking period the nose also showed cedar and liquorice. In the mouth it was sourly juicy, meaty, touch of slight sour cream underpins the medium minus intensity aromas of red currant and cranberry, soft leathery tannins. Worked well with the rack of lamb.
