Gevrey 1er Theme Dinner at IT Shanghai. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with very thin garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of light red licorice, red flowers, strawberries, dark wet earth underlying, some integrating sweet wood toast. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), lurking fine medium+ tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of strawberries, concentrated red cherries, wet stony earth minerality. Long finish. Very good quality. So full of elegance nose to palate, hard pressed to guess this as Gevrey. Drinking in a great place now, and should do so as it develops nicely over the next 3-4 years also.

Gevrey Chambertin Masterclass with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): More nose than palate at this stage. Concentraded and open nose. Strong and reserved, austere and very characteristic of the difficult combottes vineyard.
