Confrerie Burgundy Trip – Day 2 (Gevrey-Chambertin/Morey-Saint-Denis): Lilting first nose of flowers and spices, then cherries and roast. Very perfumed. Sweet cherry juice on the palate which is also a touch green. Medium body, medium acidity and round tannins. Touch of heat on the finish. Very long.

At first, this was an attractive wine with some nice fruit and richness on the palate, but fairly simple and uninteresting. However, it started to blossom an hour after opening, revealing seductive savory aromas of ripe tomato, teriyaki, and spice. The palate was singing with rich savory fruit, a delicate yet persistent finsih, very fine-grained tannins, and excellent balance.

Morey Saint Denis with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): This is a great wine and one we would buy on a heartbeat. Fine, elegant yet deep with lots of complexity. Probably the best Morey wine we have come across so far.
