  • Tasted blind. Discrete nose of sweet spices, some red fruits and earthy elements. As so many 2005s there is still quite some tannins to shed but since the house style here is low extraction this one can be drunk with a short decant.

  • Meursault & Morey Saint Denis (Imperial Treasure Shanghai @ Taka): Didn't expect this was from the 2005 giving the approachability and softer structured. Beside that, this has already showing some sous bois, autumn leaves, haw flakes etc which is entering secondary phase. Soft and elegant on the entry, getting firmer and deeper toward the mid palate with considerably power but still kinda soft for 2005. While the palate is not as complex as the nose, this is drinking very well tonight.

  • First wine from G Lignier for me and actually first Clos St Denis. This is overall very enjoyable. Definitely still seems pretty young and primary with lots of ripe berry fruits. Also clearly a polished style with a bit of oak spice and very suave tannins. That being said, still definitely Burgundy with some sauvage notes and a bit of damp earth. There are floral scents, baking spices, and black tea here as well. The palate is good and nicely balanced; ripe with good depth, but definitely a modern veneer here. All said though the bottle disappeared quickly and it was definitely enjoyed. Will hold my other bottle for 5ish+ years.

  • Dim Sum Club at InItaly (InItaly, Craig Road): Blind, we all thought new world, but this was actually not a bad wine at all. The nose was sweet and ripe though, with deep aromas of blackberries and plums and sweet spice packed in with a little spice, all this coated with a layer of sweet vanilla oak and a waft of burnt rubber. The palate was very whole, with both the power and the clarity of the vintage showing in its big flavours of dark fruited berries and plums. There was still a softness and elegance that hinted at Cos St Denis rather than the other Grand Crus of Morey, but there was also plenty of raw strength wrapped up in there, with a powerful, spice-filled finish punching into the back-palate. All-in-all, a good wine, but a touch too modern for my tastes, and way too young to drink. Try again in 10 years.
