  • This is stellar, unbelievable how young and primary it seems! The nose initially is just filled with raspberry, Ranier cherry, red currant, hints of lilac, forest floor, and a whiff of spice. With time the fruit continues to develop and becomes slightly darker and richer, with a bit of mushroom and dried leather coming into play. The palate is elegant, still fruit filled, and has perfect balance. The fruit is lifted by vibrant acidity that is just enough so that neither is overwhelming; there are no tannins to speak of and the finish lingers quite nicely. I think blind I would guess this as a 6-8 year old wine. Still on the upswing for me and I will probably hold my second bottle for another 3-5 years.

  • The Eyrie Vineyards South Block Vertical 1975-2007 (McMinnville Grand Ballroom in McMinnville, Oregon): The bouquet is spice driven, showing dusty earth, cloves, and caramel blended with the full skins of a cherry. Grapefruit flavors touch down right away on the palate and quickly become delicious and juicy. Apple flavors with a touch of strawberry show on the mid palate with the mature and integrated structure reminding me of seeds in the strawberries.
