Wines Tasted at the La Paulée Verticals Session (The Maybourne, Beverly Hills): Magnum. Medium ruby. Rounder, sweeter, more supple red and blue fruit compared to the 2012. Citrus and a noticeable layer of oak. Tannic, soil filled finish. Inviting modern style, but its outstanding depth heralds several decades of potential.

Very disappointing for a Grand Cru from fine vintage. Promising typical colour and reasonable nose. Drank over 1.5hrs. Overall impression - too green, stalky, insipid with marginal release of fruit and little to detect in the way of complexity or character. Drank a much more impressive young (much cheaper) village wine recently. I hate it when burgundy disappoints like this. Tried again 24hrs later and had opened a little but was flat/flaccid.

This Grand Cru opened my eyes as to what the Red Burgundy hype is all about. Being young I gave this a 2 hour decant and a 5 minute vSpin. Hi acidity, smooth, elegant, feminine, with captivating flavors. Fruits were not pronounced as in many wines but instead were sublime, nuanced and in harmony with the earthy tones. I got a real sense of terroir from this wine. Cherry, raspberry, strawberry, earthy, cinnamon."

La Paulée de Los Angeles - The Verticals (Maybourne Hotel - Beverly Hills CA): Walkaround vertical tasting. Magnum. Surprisingly accessible for the vintage, this has so much energy with elegant flavors. Modern styled, but with a Crton backbone. Very good now with lots of upside.

Beautiful high-end expression of Burgundy. Could use a ton more age but was still beautiful
