HWS Game dinner 2014: In the bouquet pleasantly stinky with minerals, smoke and yellow fruits. Same on the palate, some oak and showing some age. A fully mature and complex wine. Really lovely now.

Bright green gold. Relatively fleshy expression of Burgundy, a little extra oak at first, but subdued after about an hour. Tasty and fresh, more savory than mineral or tart. Interesting and enjoyable, while knowing the origin factors into the experience.

Rich, sweet and thick. Very nice. White Burgundy meets CdP. Slightly over-the-top apples and ripe melon and the smell of figs and cranberry. Unique. Good w/o food.

Light golden straw colour, fantastic and surprising nose, some honeysuckle and mandarin, and other flowers. Slightly buttery with a toasted brioche (hazelnut) aroma. It is the second time we tasted this wine, last time I ordered a case the next day, I think I want to do this again and will probably convince some of our friend to do that too. I cannot do justice to this wine but I trust Mike and Jean-Paul will help out. For my part I will rate it above what I usually rate great white, truly a fantastic wine, a very well kept secret i.e. under-rated and great value for money.

(Vougeraie Vougeot Clos Blanc de Vougeot) The nose is a little tight - just a trace of anise. Good fat similar balancing acidity to the Beaune blanc - but finer. Concentrated but much more linear than the Beaune - presents itself very differently. Wait 2 years before thinking about drinking…
