At Wine Group Dinner 203, Harveys Bistro - 2009 Left Bank. This wine opened beautifully with a deep crimson colour and forthcoming nose of blackcurrants, garnet plums, lead pencil, dark chocolate and cedar. The palate is rich and layered with plenty of complexity that becomes apparent with air and time. This exudes pure Pauillac class and balance to counterweight the vintage richness.

Pichon Baron Longueville 2009 No decant, just pop and pour. On the nose, hints of coffee, truffle, black fruit, musky notes, funk and meat. On the palate, lots of black fruit and blackberry, hints of meat and dark chocolate, some licorice on the back palate, wood, quite a bit of spice. The finish is medium. A powerful play. 94/100

An hour was way too short to decant this before drinking but there’s still treated us to a beautiful and classic left bank profile along with some great 2009 fruit. Either wait until 2030 for a software version or decant for 6+ hours now for a more plush one.

Quite dark and bold but showing hint of nuance. For my taste, it was far too young. Good potential but probably takes another 7-10 years to come around.

In a small tasting at a retailer.
The best by far.
Ready, but years ahead.
