23012023 - Chor Yee drink at a close friend’s house for CNY gathering. Nose: plum, ripe cherry, tobacco, oak and hint of black pepper. Palate: still very young. Medium acidity with medium to full body. Tannins are plush and chewy but gained more weight after 2 hrs in. Would love a revisit in 10 years time!

Very dark and complex bouquet of toasted spices and oak, vanilla cassis and black plums, smoked meat, dried herbs and tobacco. Yet it is still quite restraint and not in your face. On entry, palate is rich, smooth and slightly sweet from the ripe fruits and spices. Amazing concentration. It slowly transits to a polished and peppery mid-palate with some grip from the fine tannins towards the end. There is good freshness to balance the richness. Full-bodied and open structure, every aromatics elements are expressing in a well-mannered way, allowing the taster to get through the layers of flavours from entry to a finish which is leathery and long. There are aftertaste of bitter grape skin and spices. Ready to drink now with some breathing. Will continue to hold for the next 5-8 years.

Coffee on the nose, lots of blackberry and plum, mild hints of mint exposed too.
Bottle 9 of 23 over our Genting Sempah early birthday staycation, we enjoyed 1 glass each of this on the 1st night of our holiday by the jacuzzi. Felt that it needed more bottle time, so we finished this on the 2nd day evening where we found marginal improvements then it fell away at the end as well.
Thanks to bro M for kindly sharing what's my fanciest Wolf Blass to date, though I can't find justification in the USD 100+ pricing.
Perhaps enjoyed still too young, needs another 10 years?
Matured as individual vineyard batches in a combination of 40% new and 38% seasoned French oak, 12% new and 10% seasoned American oak for 20 months.
Screw cap. Still quite dark. Coffee, cocoa, black berries on the nose. Ripe and sweet on the palate. Pop and pour is fine. Very soft already. Drink it if you have it. Not a particularly interesting wine, but can't really fault it either. Good length.

🍇 Varietal composition...
54% Cabernet Sauvignon - 41% Shiraz - 5% Malbec
Oddly... the cork was that of a generic synthetic Cork with no printing whatsoever, did we get an oddball bottle!?
