Canon vs. Duffau-Lagarrosse 2009-2020 tasted blind (Fribourg): Fantastic nose of autumn leaves, cinnamon, cured meat, dried fruit and a touch of bell pepper. Soft palate, blind similar to a very old Pinot or Cote Rotie. confirms that old wines converge aromatically. 96+

Vertical of Canon vs Beasejour Duffau Lagarrosse (Fribourg): Tasted as a goodie as part of a vertical. Hazy color. Plenty of sous-bois and forest floor along with malty complexity. Sweet fruit, with apricot confit complementing the raspberry fruit. The palate has thinned out a bit, lacking structure and density, but with still fresh fruit and a nice base of tertiary aromas.

Had this at a social event hence only brief notes from memory. Quick double-decant. Excellently aged nose of sous-bois and foliage with a fine layer of strawberry and raspberry fruit, dried herbs and mineral notes. Incredibly soft texture, perfect balance and unexpectedly intense. What was especially noteworthy is the acidity of which there was just the perfect amount, injecting the necessary vigour but in no way too dominant as is often the case with such old wines (for my liking).
