Casual dinner at Testacio: Dirty on the nose. Less so on the palate, but that got dirty too with air. Not nearly as good as a bottle from a few months ago.

Dinner at Testaccio (Chicago, IL): Quite dirty on the nose but the palate was very fresh and bright, and I could have guessed that this was a 1996 or even a 2001. Unfortunately, the dirtiness just got worse as the night wore on.

Enticing aromas of earthy black cherry with classic Burgundian aged spice and toasted herbs, which pick up intensity and nuance at hour 4+. Palate is harmonious and complex with mid-weight fruit that hangs in strong over the evening.

Peter's Mature Pommard (The Perseverence, Marylebone): Lovely colour. Relatively dense and monolithic on the nose. Bright red fruit . Dense but quite sleek. Silky fine tannins. Far more 88 than a Dujac Roche here a few weeks ago, but not the surly side of the vintage. Very attractive and plenty of interest. ****

Powerful and mouthcoating with firm, grippy tannins and good balancing acid. This is perfectly mature and drinking exceptionally well at the moment.
