Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Bottle weathered, capsule slightly corroded, fill and color good. The cork was depressed and pushed into the bottle as I pressed the corkscrew against it. Wine decanted. Good color, a little funky and brutally tannic at the outset with the faintest suggestion of taint. Hardly yielding after an hour, but 3 hours on it is yielding a bit. It became darker ruby and brighter with air. Aromatics much better, earthy, raspberry, a little chlorine. It smells like it's trying to be a good glass of wine, but it can't overcome the tannins - like a '76 or maybe just too Pommard. Given the cork conditions, I suppose this has a little taint, but the dominant feature is that bite. I would say that bottles in good condition might offer a nice surprise with alot of air (ie > 3 hours in the decanter). No hurry, but it will always lack balance and grace.
