The Beau-Sejour Becot felt like a left bank with a very Cab Sauv nose. There was a very strong ferric note too initially which morphed into a seaweed-iodine note as it got more air in the decanter. The intrinsic quality is fair but it was heavily outshone by the La Chapelle.

Been drinking this wine every year on my birthday now for twelve years (this was my last bottle in a case). The fill on this particular bottle was perfect and so was the cork. In the glass, the wine is medium garnet.
On the nose, this wine had a great perfume - blackberries, prunes, baking spices, mushrooms, forest floor, and some tobacco. Great nose, just not sure how to accurately describe this. Lots going on. Definitely some tertiary evolution.
On the palate, no alcoholic heat, tannins are still a bit grippy, medium-plus acidity, with good overall length. The wine is still a bit "dusty," with some blackberries, prunes, mushrooms, clay (if that makes sense?), clove, cinnamon, and some kind of dark-fruited jam (can't put my finger on it). Still quite a bit of fruit on the palate, which was surprising to me. Overall, this is still delicious and for those that like lower alcohol (13% on the label), fully mature St-Emilion, this is a fantastic wine if correctly stored, obviously. I feel like this won't get much better so I would drink up sooner rather than later.

Deep garnet color, opaque, slight haze. The smells are olive, dill, tobacco, tea, leather, bell pepper, and garrigue. The tastes are cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate, earth, tobacco, vanilla, and spicy notes. The tannins are velvety and the finish is lengthy.

Still very good but I would not wait much longer. Rated it 1 point higher 10 years ago. If you like BSB go for the 2008 at the moment.

Very correct, smooth and balanced example og the right bank; notes of cocoa, tuffle, mushrooms - and still a quite rich fruit. Drink up IMHO.
