Only short decant needed. 15- 30 mins given. Lacks definition and structure but makes up in wonderful primary dark fruits and tertiary leather and pepper. Quite velvety and very supple.
Holding up well. Charming aged saint emilion. Bottle had great levels and cork in perfect condition.

From a bottle with top shoulder fill. Nice tertiary aromas in the nose. On the palate it starts off a little harsh and bright with metallic, minty notes. No signifcant fruit left. Longer decanting brings down the off-aromas and adds some warmth. Enjoyable but not great, some decanting required.

Flower-Power: Snippets from Joyce's Birthday (Chin Huat Live Seafood): This was at a good place. Intriguing nose here - really dusty, earthy, with a ring of smoky tar, a dose Italiante herbs, some dried rose petals and hints of plum and cherry riding on a bed of metallic mineral scents - a really nice nose, which led quite a few of us to think that this might have been a Nebbiolo. The palate did little to dispel the impression. There was a nice amount of spice, some red cherry fruit - not the richest wine for sure, but this had nice proportions, poise and balance, with a fine layer of tannins leading into a detailed finish with notes of earth and spice. The cherries, tannins and the earthiness again brought Piedmont to mind. Kudos to M though, who spotted it as a right bank from the get-go. This was a nice wine that gave a lot of pleasure on the day, but I would drink it soon as there is a danger that the 1986 tannins would outlive the elegant fruit.

Has kept well for a 1986. Full of primary. Lacked structure but expected for the age and grape type.

A bit of greeness and Cabernet franc. Some roses and some tariness. Fresh
