I’m no Barolo aficionado, but I bought some 2011 and 2013 Scavino’s at the insistence of a wine agent friend. Different than the Bordeaux, North and South Rhone, Burgundy, Beaujolais and Spanish that we usually drink, but delicious. Elegant. Leather and cherries in a delightful package. Yum! Ready to drink to our taste.

Opened with an extremely mineral nose, loads of oyster shells and sour cherry but quickly softened into a nicely balanced profile of roses, cherry, lavender, oak spice, and more oyster shell. The fruit is quite plush and ripe but there is lots of mineral and herbal interest here. Little development as far as aging is concerned; young but approachable, and with years to go. Nicely composed. Would not have guessed 2011

Not overly impressed, warm vintage, still not ready, the alcohol is not integrated, touch jammy. Hmmm

I get the mineral nose that Ex-S mentioned and sour cherry. Wine is nothing special and I would not buy again
