Sat upright for 3 hours, opened and slow-oxed for about 2 hours, then three hours in the decanter. There was not much sediment. The color is medium garnet. Smells are strong of cherry and blackberry, some earth and brambles. The taste is clean and clear of fruit and vanilla. I like how this is coming together. It tastes better just a bit above cellar temp, maybe 65 deg. Opening now, good for another 12-15 years.

Dinner with Andrew of CellarTracker fame (Chicago, IL): Slightly more oak heavy and darker complexioned than the VCC (whose elegance I much prefer). This doesn't have the overwrought qualities of the 2015, which I think is a real dog. The lighter vintage works much better here. Still incredibly young, this needs at least another decade before it's ready.

Normally one of my favorite producers, but not showing well tonight. Way too young. Not integrated. My daughter said ‘it smells like vanilla cake’ which speaks to the overwhelming oak. This is 15-20 years younger than any bottle I have had before. HOLD!

BTG. Structured black fruit with enough ripeness and plenty of structure. Good enough weight.
