USA Syrah tasting in Vino and Friends. (By JK in Maastricht): Leather, iron, dark berries, spices and some sweetness in the bouquet. On the palate a lush wine with chocolate and licorice, beautifully fresh acidity and some pleasant bitterness.

Smells like a hayloft filled with dark berries, plums, grapes, and acetone (subtle). The mouth-feel is quite silky. The initial attack is pure berry fruit, quickly followed by incredibly fresh tannins and acidity. The tannin and acid seem to be engaged in a strange battle for mouth supremacy. A lot is going on in this wine. I think I pick up some dried fruits such as fig, dates, and prunes as well. Concludes with a long dry finish featuring cocoa powder, coffee, and tea leaves. Oh, this has 15.5% alc? You'd never know. Of course, seeing as how I am a Sherry fanatic, I associate 15% alc with a delicate fino or manzanilla.

(Turley Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard) Opaque black dark violet color, even darker than the rest of the vertical; vanilla, berry nose; very tasty, juicy, ripe berry, blueberry palate; long finish

Soft but still excellent. Cherry, jammy nose, strong fruit and a bit earthy on palate. Very pleased it held on this long.

Dark fresh pigmentation; black fruit, roasted earth and piney notes on nose and palate which remains firmly tannic
