Second time I had this vintage. tasted single blind, no decant.
on the nose rather closed. but on the beginning of the tertiary aroma development. some leather and sous bois, slight woody aromas such as vanilla. dark berry aromas and cooked plum, in general the wine was on the darker side of the aroma spectrum. I had the impression that the fruits were rather disperse and not precise. I have to admit that I am always looking for freshness in wines and I missed this in this wine. give this wine a decant, maybe the nose would open up more.
the palate offers great length, high tannins, aciditiy medium+, high alcohol. there was a slight bitterness on the finish that was very characteristic. lacking tension and sexyness. overpriced for me.

So good to have this wine with my new friend, medium plus garnet, medium plus black cherry, blueberry, green bell but not green, eucalyptus, vanilla, leather, dry, medium to medium plus acidity, high alcohol, medium plus smooth tannin, medium plus body, long finish. Very pomerol style super Tuscan, like vieux chateau certan or l’evangile. Wonderful night

Plum and camphor on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, currant, plum, and notes of strawberry, cocoa, and earthy spice on the long finish, with light to moderate tannins and strong acidity. Although this is outstanding, it was only an average to good value for $120; at the $170+ I see it going for now it would be a below average value. This is one of the best wines I have had this year, but the price premium for the reputation is beyond what I am willing to support. The Cellartracker drinking window looks about right.

I did decant for over two hours this time, and I suspect it could use more. A very good Merlot, if still on the very young side.

Opened and drunk slowly after 30 minutes of air. I'd give it two hours next time. Very good, and I suspect will last literally decades.
