Clos Vougeot - Clos Center Tasting (Chicago, IL): 85/90/97. A glorious aged Burgundy from a spectacular vintage. Epic nose that is full, intense and complex with a mix of fresh and dried fruit, fresh and dried florals and all kinds of spice. Full, enveloping, rich fruit that is vibrant and pure. Lots of earthy complexity and still has plenty of spice.

Clos Vougeot (The Center) Tasting (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): In 97/90/85 vertical. This is exactly what we want from well aged Burgundy. Mature red cherry and berry with earth, mushroom, and sweet spice. So much complexity, so layered and brilliantly textured, this kept unfolding more and more. Bottle was in near perfect condition.

Vertical of Clos Vougeot from 2005-1985 (Clos Vougeot): Almost a caramel sweetness to the wine, on the nose, succulent. Certainly nose of baked fruit, too, with, again, baked plum on the palate. Tannins are just a bit – still – tight believe it or not, on the finish, meaning that you can rest assured that the wine has more time to age blissfully in your cellar. But perfect to open now, with a meat based dish to be sure.

From a pristine looking bottle, this wine had a medium light red center and some tan at the rim. The medium intensity nose developed well to show red fruit, rhubarb, soil, and a hint of soy.
It was a bit awkward at first showing excess alcohol. As the wine aired it rounded out nicely to display a nice juicey mid-palate, a silky texture, round tannin, and very good length. While it may not have astonishing complexity, it is an impressive and attractive pinot.
This can be drunk with 2+ hours of air or it will easily last 10+ years.

Beautiful red Burgundy. Great fruity notes. Paired well with turkey. Opened up nicely over an hour. Decanted.
