  • Such amazing Greek wines that you would never be able to find on your own - Axia in Tenafly, NJ - great stuff guys

  • It's a pity that Tsantalis has stopped producing this label as my friend Yiannis points in his notes.
This is a terrific Cabernet one of Greece's best. Quite mature now but could develop further.
Idiosyncratic with somewhat funky-leathery nose but has elements like cedar and black berry fruit that could
make one think of left bank Bordeaux. Like a very good cru bourgeois.

  • This used to be one of the greates Greek reds, and unfortunately it was discontinued since the 2006 vintage to be replaced by 2 other labels, the Metoxi X which includes Xinomavro alongside the Limnio and Cabernet Sauvignon and Metoxi Chromitsa, a lower budget label. Neither has appealed to me as much as the original Metoxi, whose excellent 2000 vintage was one of the first bottlings that made me a wine enthusiast. Dark garnet color. Mature nose of ripe black cherry, cedar, coffee, leather and earthy scents. Medium-bodied, soft and smooth with somewhat stewed fruit and balancing acidity.Med-long aftertaste.

  • Dark ruby-purple, extremely youthful. Initially a restrained, lactic nose that opened up gradually, revealing dark cherries, liquorice, chocolate and vanilla. The lactic tones did not disappear completely, and the nose remained somewhat restrained until the end. Medium-bodied with firm, dusty tannins, good fruit and balancing acidity. Medium minus aftertaste. This is considered as an iconic greek red, and while its youth is impressive given its age, it is not that impressive overall, let down by the poor quality of its tannins, the relatively short aftertaste and its restrained character. Paired nicely with a grilled beef fillet.

  • A bit restrained on the nose with notes of cherry, pine cone and baked apple.
Quite fullbodied silky smooth palate with balanced acidity and berry fruit: cherries, cranberries and redcurrants. Some milky oak and medicinal liquorice towards the long aftertaste with notes of cherry coke as well as strengthening chocolate and leather notes.
A really fun Greek wine. International style meets with something more quirky and unique.
