no formal note, but i was really, really impressed with this bottle. velvet tertiary elements, wonderful depth. very, very classy. it was due to be drunk for my birthday in a fortnight, i'd have shared with 6 others. as it panned out tonight i got to share with my eldest and her boyfriend. a much better deal. without doubt the best bottle of Oz PN i've had the pleasure of. No rush to drink up but it is in a wonderful place right now. i wish i had another. i'm grateful to peter for selling it to me back in the day.

Quite dark blood/ruby, and still a touch pink on the rim. Pungent nose of sweet red cherry, with gamey, floral, and caramel/confectionery notes. Totally bizarre but quite appealing. Mouth entry is sweet and round with rich cherry lozenge fruit. Beautifully poised medium weight in the mouth. Nice touch of wood and a good well-balance finish. Unique, not at all Burgundy, but a very good wine. 4-

Christmas Lunch with friends (Sydney, Australia): An intense nose - rhubarb, sweet red cherry, stalk, confected raspberry and some chocolate notes. Very forward compared to the Bass Phillip, especially on the nose. A bit more texture to the mouth-feel, although the overall structure and length isn't as good as the Bass Phillip. Two very different styles, and I quite enjoyed both of them for what they were (not what they may be trying to be).
