  • Youthful ruby-purple. Still vibrant and fresh nine years on, though clearly mature with nose a bit dull. I’d opt for drinking soon, even if there aren’t any clear signs of imminent demise. Pretty wine. 5-10-16-7: 88/100. Might have been better a year or two ago.

  • Subsequent notes on this wine from close to 7 years ago. Dark purple in color; almost opaque. Full, forward & aromatic nose of ripe fruit aromas of blueberries, cherries & mulberries with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of violets, minerals, iron, herbs, truffles, some cocoa notes & exotic spice notes. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, plush, ripe fruit flavors of blackberries, cherries & strawberries with spices, minerals, cocoa & a hint of mushrooms. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present & at 8 years of age, it is close to or at its peak of development although it should hold here for several more years. I have heard some Beaujolais have the potential to develop further with age & this one appears to prove that point. With aging, it appears the tertiary notes of earthy/dusty notes are now more dominant over the previous youthful fruit & floral notes.

  • PnP. Initially closed and slightly bitter. Opens up to mostly cool, elegant fruit but with a sweet touch. Some greenish liquorice, think fennel and a touch of something herbal, medicina. Light tannins, chalk and iron minerals, medium lenght. Good.

  • Dark plum color still. Flowers, mineral, and dark berry fruit on the nose. The palate has improved since my last bottle. It's not that missing acidity has shown up, but just that everything seems in better balance now and so there's less a sense of a hold in the mid-palate. There's still a swath of somewhat rustic, chewy tannins. Not sure about a lot of further evolution here, though I don't think it's going to fall of a cliff any time soon.

  • Fruit has faded some. There is still lots of darker berry notes on the nose but on the palate less, revealing a quite structured body with noticable tannins and a pronounced minerality with iron and rust dominant.
