Garnet color in the glass, a little dusty looking. Nose of potpourri, dust, anise and black cherries. Flavors of berries, black cherries and plums. Medium acidity, medium tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold. I'd likely drink.

Cloudy and rust colored in the glass, with a bit of orange bricking at the edges. Classic pinot bouquet, faint but distinctive, with some smoke, mushroom and musty earth notes mixed in. The fruit is fairly masked by a sharp acidity with the first sips, and the finish is quite clipped. After a short period of time, the wine blossomed well beyond my initial expectations, and may be the best performing '97 Burg I've enjoyed. Sweet tobacco, cherry, rasberry, violets and mild vanilla emerged on the nose. On the palate, the acidity faded and gave way to dusty rasberries, orange pekoe tea and dark spices (allspice maybe?) alongside a sweet mineral underpinning. Soon the aromatics were so complex and persistent I scarcely needed to taste. The finish lengthened, reflecting persistent tannins. Soft and feminine in the end, though missing the creamy texture I'd dared to hope for.

A little past its prime, very elegant but faded pretty quickly. Drink up

Happy with this wine - GC quality here, showing good stuffing for the vintage

Sydney 1st Growth Bordeaux/Grand Cru Burgundy Dinner (Marque Restaurant): Exhibits aromas of earth, stalks and mushrooms but with oak coming in over the top. There is some texture to the palate but it is rather simple otherwise.
