1996 Burgundy Tasting (Holiday Inn - Skokie IL): Tasted double blind in 1996 Burgundy tasting. A bit more structure than actual pleasure right now. Fully mature red fruit with faint spice. Moderate weight and length. Very surprised when unveiled, this was a slight disappointment tonight.

Outstanding mature burg. Murky red purple. A very Vosne nose of soy, hoisin, muted five spice, and dark stone fruits. In fact, this is a crazy nose -- the kind where you go back to your empty glass, stick you nose in, close your eyes, and smile. Substantial midpalate of plum, fennel, and mushroom. Long finish that lasts 60 seconds plus. Nice acid levels, fine balance. Very Ech, well done.

A lovely drink. Well kept. Decanted because cork was very dry, but wine was giving early. Not getting better from here. Drink up. Enjoy!

Echezeaux Dinner (Sepia - Chicago IL): Slightly corked. At first seemed just muddy, but the cork character continued to emerge and expand.
