blind side by side with Musar 1988 Maybe the only "disappointing" flight. Both a bit broad, missing elegance and finesse. Fruit lack and short in length. 93

Open and left to rest for a good. We felt the wine needed nothing more. In discussing how to rate it Nicol gave that reply that she does with amazing wines. “I am not sure what more I could ask of a wine” and this says it all. Well aged but still very much alive, well secondary but with a healthy vibrinar dark fruit. Leather and spice in the nose and a nose that we will remember for some time. The result of amazing classical winemaking aided by Napa fruit. 98

Knockout stuff. Beautiful aroma of red berries and tar as soon as I took the cork out (which was in great shape). Had side by side with an 88 Dun Howell Mountain. This seemed like it could easily age for another 3-5 years and continue to improve as the tannins continue to integrate. Really enjoyed this a whole lot.

Phillip Togni Retrospective: Not a good bottle or vintage, one of the two (or in this case, perhaps both).

Philip Togni vertical (1983-96) (Chicago, IL): Something not quite right here. This was a dull thud of a nose, and when I tasted it, there was a little corkiness on the palate.
