2023 Napa in the City: Tasting & Lunch (The Pool/Grill): It’s just a miss that we haven’t spent more time with Togni and I’m not entirely sure how that happened. We love mountain wine and wine that is made to last and Togni is both of those. Located towards the top of Spring Mountain - approximately 2k in elevation. This is majority Bordeaux Blend - 82% CS, a blend of CF, Merlot, PV - but interestingly enough it also has just a few clusters of Cinsaut from the vine that had been planted back in the 1800’s. The vines are the vines and they are all blended together early in the process so the wine has the same distribution each year. This was lovely. Herbal and classic and old school in style. Less fruit than some others but much more interesting balancing notes. A wine that I will keep out more of an eye for going forward.

Small US new arrivals tasting hosted by a merchant. A darker style of Cali cab with dark cherry, bramble berry, leather, crushed pepper, black tea and dark chocolate. Fresh herbs and a splash of spice round off the picture. There is clearly baby fat, but the balance is flawless and the tannic structure seamless. A heavyweight that manages to avoid any sense of being overpowering.

After an hour, opened up. Will wait to open the rest of these, some time will do it justice.
