Stood Up for a day (which wasn't enough) and double decanted at 10am. A fair amount of very fine sediment I wish had settled more and some heavier sediment I was able to decant off. This was drunk next to the '90 (which is a bit off) and the '04 which were so very similar. Very good Showing maybe at peak?

A perfect bottle. Bucket list for me, purchased at auction so unclear provenance, but got lucky. Gorgeous structure with balanced acidity and resolved tannins. Lovely earth and truffle on the nose, fruit still there but fading to the background. So smooth on the palate, a rarity that the palate matched the magnificence of the bouquet. On peak. Now-2031

Sassicaia continues to challenge me in many vintages. It is always a robust wine, with massive structure that takes effort to chip away. After one hour decanting the strength and austerity is undiminished. Paired with Sologne Venison with Radicchio, Black Truffle and Madeira Sauce, the wine had few rounded edges and kept up its steely black fruit guard throughout the evening. From time to time through chunks in the armor you could catch a glimpse of a perfumed substance shrouded in balsamic oak and currant but would just as quickly shut the broadly oaky gates. It would be an exaggeration to say we became friends in the end but there was a respectful relationship established. There was a softness, but on the outside, with an impenetrable core at heart.

Delicious but … hard to distinguish from a classic Bordeaux. Leather and chocolate and pencil lead.

On the mild side but the bouquet is classical. Should be peaking out just now.
