  • A little tight when double decanted in afternoon, opened nicely. Fragrant red fruits, tar, and rose petals. Enough power to go with the steak, but balanced and elegant. A little mushroomy at end, but in a pleasant way. A-

  • A bit maderized; sweet earthy cherry; tobacco; textured; long finish.

  • First there was a strong oxidative note dominating the aromatics. This blew off a little with some more time in the glass. Structurally, this bottle was still intact, with some notes of dark red fruit, also some dried fruits, but also some underwood and mushroom notes, as well as some tar. It‘s medium-full bodied, pretty dense, with tannin that has melted away nicely and still good freshness (despite it‘s advanced, slightly oxidized character). Good length. Difficult to rate this. Still quite an experience to drink this.

  • In great shape right now, with a nice evolved nose, with lovely complexity, especially the second day, after a nigh in the decanter. Silky palate, very smooth and with great presence and body. It still has a moderate tannic structure, just to keep it interesting on the finish which is very long. Very nice.

  • Decanted one hour before drinking it over dinner in good company. No TN, from memory. The fine sediment was well separated. Good color, still lively, but just a bit subdued.
Nose was of a classic mature barolo, still with floral and red fruit notes, smooth and complex with tar and a hint of mushrooms/forest floor. In the glass it developed an oxidative note, which I suspect would have blown off, had the wine given time to breathe, but the bottle went fast.
The palate had a wonderfully fresh and red-fruited attack, went deeper on earthy and savory notes on the midpalate, all in a lightfooted and silky package. Tannins are almost completely resolved - there remains just a hint.
    Great showing.
