This was alright, though I was expecting an aglianico for some reason which it most certainly is not. Bright and light, fruity, low on tannin and depth overall. Also had a strong iron/iodine note. First time tasting piedirosso.

100% Piedirosso. Clear, medium ruby. The nose has an interesting mix of tart red cherries and raspberries, tart plums, smoke, tar and a slightly stemmy note. The palate is very dry, with medium (+) acidity, medium tannins and medium alcohol (12.5%). The palate is consistent with the nose but also exhibits a pleasant savory minerality. This wine does not see any oak, but has an inherent smokiness due to the varietal and/or the growing conditions on volcanic soil. It is light to medium (-) bodied and is better when consumed with food. It is drinking well now and should continue to show well for at least another year.

Italian Wine Scholar Class at the Texas Wine School. Tasting consistently with my 10/23/18 note, except that the fruit on the nose is a little faded.

Red fruits, with earthy notes. A nice, rather simple Italian red.
