  • This was everybody’s but mines favorite tonight. It has superb complexity and a highly elegant frame. With the very vinous character but especially the oxidative aromas, it‘s just not my favorite style of Champagne. I preferred the Dom Perignon 2010 (95pts) in the next glass, on paper a weaker vintage and in reality for sure a less complex and fine wine. There is no denying that this Egly is grand, but you have to like the style. 94/95pts.

TN: Expressive nose with fine oxidative aromas, autolysis notes, wrapped around a citrus and white fruit core. Same intensive aromas on the palate with more caramel and toffee, as well as a layer of yellow fruit. Very high complexity, superb precision, very vinous in its style but with the typical ageing notes of Champagne. The frame is ultra elegant with very fine mousse, good freshness, superb balance and roudness. Complete.

Decanting: Not decanted, open and expressive from the go. No decanting needed.

  • Pall Mall 67 BYOB - Singapore. Top drawer pinot dominant grower vintage Champagne (wow that is a mouthful!). Light Oxidative note on the nose and the praline flavour that characterises Egly s wines. Ample midpalate which the riper fruit in a riper year affords. You can peel off multiple layers on that palate unlike in vaunted lean years (08?). Bruised apple obviously but in a complex style think Tarte Tatin, compote or Apfel Strudel. I am an unabashed Egly fan ; Champagne does not get much better than this.

  • Tasted at a social event. Amazing palate with layers , density and wight to it. Aromas are a harmonious melody of apple and pear fruit, burned sugar, yeast, flour and bakery notes as well as herbal complexity. The palate is broad adding distinct caramel flavor. Linear acidity leading into an endless finish with a citric climax after 1.5 minutes. Compared to 2009 and 2013 this came across more fresh in terms of aromas with fewer oxidative notes. But overall I would see this on a par with those outstanding vintages.

  • Wow, an absolutely stunning bottle of this. Open, radiant and full-throttle, this is a great bottle of 2009. Notes of citrus, red berries, deep minerality, sweet spices, a touch of oxidation as it is in the house style, layered and complex. It‘s full bodied, powerful and dense, with excellent freshness of high acidity and creamy bubbles, more on the vinous side as always here. Long finish with great complexity. A stunning Champange of the highest level.
