'Le Lievre a la Royale' Long Lunch (cafe EPURE, Shop 403, inside Epure, Level 4, Ocean Centre, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong): Last bottle of a very long lunch and drank over a late afternoon cigar. Semi-opaque dark red-black colour. Nose is reticent red cherry and not helped by pnp. Palate is rather dried out with the tannin predominant above the faded fruit. Earthy. Would almost certainly have benefited from a 1-2 hour decant. I scored this 92 when last drank in more contemplative circumstances three years ago but it was outgunned today. Thanks, Daniel!

Notes désagréables de purin à l’ouverture, mais l’ensemble se patine dans le temps pour être magnifique en jour 3 d’épaisseur, et longueur sur le cuir et la viande maturee.

Last of a forgotten case I had thought I had fully drank 5-10 years ago. Cork is ‘as new’. Colour is almost fully opaque fresh ox-blood. Nose is smoked bacon and Rees Peanut Butter Cup chocolate bar and increasingly emergent red bramble fruit, some caramel emerging too..... it is a lovely, sniffable nose. Palate is warm, welcoming tart but slightly late summer plum fruit with a growingly assertive blood-iron minerality and attractively fresh, lifted acidity. Medium bodied but quite powerful, particularly with a strong reverberance in the back of the head on the finish. Quintessentially expressive of the St. Joseph terroir and very complete and more-ish. The last of a case drank mainly in 2008-2010 and I had feared it would be past peak, but it is really drinking ‘at peak’ tonight and will last another few years though I doubt it will further improve. A nice surprise.

Graphite paired with some fruity notes, elegant and balanced, impressive finish, very nice

Notes from hazy memory (and no points). Balanced, understated, soft red berries with a mineral hint. No worries hanging onto for at least 2 years.
