Second time to try this vintage though a year apart.
Decanted with a bit of sediment noticed. Color remains very dark and rich looking. No purple hues this time, however.
This wine remains quite dense with amazingly rich flavors. Both on day one and day two, the tannins remain hidden (or masked) - just like last time - under a thick coating of rich fruit. In a sense, it may seem a bit primary because it is so dense right now. Elements of dark cherry and raspberry and perhaps something like blueberries(?) are present, but it's one big block of flavors. No fleshy Merlot here. I suspect the Cabernet Franc flavors will take time to reach the surface. This wine is unbelievably smooth and, I believe, the layered flavors will appear post adolescence.
Enjoy now - if you must open a bottle - or cellar for five to seven years for additional levels of complexity. In the zone until 2042. Elevating the score to 95 since last tasting, in 2021.

Been looking forward to the arrival of this wine for some time, having purchased several bottles as futures. Decanted into a 1-l. boiling flask for about one hour prior to dinner; however, a small amount was poured into a glass for an initial assessment.
This is a very dark wine with some nearly purple strands noticable in the glass. Out of the gate, the nose is big and needs time to bloom; it’s quite dense. Omnipresent red raspberry and coffee-like elements dominate. Rick dark fruits are wound-up and tight, and presently mask – for now - the high tannins which exist subsurface. Only time in the bottle will do justice to this wine.
At about 15 minutes, flavors of red raspberry morphed to dark red cherry – think dry Loxardo maraschino cherries; all coating the dry, rich, tannins. Concomitantly, that coffee element seems to have shifted and now reveals a tar, maybe violet, component. The finish is good and strong and balanced.
The next day, the fat fruit flavors were still present, but the tannic platform was more gripping. The dominate flavor was blackberry rather than dry cherries. There is potential magic in the bottle if the fruit profile and tannins cooperate. This wine will be more complex at seven to ten years. 15 percent alcohol, but the wine is not hot.
(Served with grilled lamb chops marinated in olive oil and herbs de provence, plus a charred radicchio salad. So pleased spring is here.)
