  • BYOB dinner NOTK (Rotterdam): Last bottle of the evening and didn’t get the attention it deserved. PnP and needs more air and/or more time. Medium intensity with warm cherries, ceder, black fruit. Velvety. Medium+ acidity, high tannins, long finish. Feels not destemmed, some harsh green notes on the palate

  • Clearly well made, even if not totally my preferred style. Deep dark fruit, pretty high grainy tannins, intense wine.

  • From half bottle. Ripe red cherry fruit, condensed herbs and a mineral base. Velvety texture, but with rather grainy tannins. Otherwise nice and juicy, even if with a pretty dry finish. Well-made and highly enjoyable, but with minor flaws that keep a lid on scoring potential.

  • It’s been a long time since I had a Galatrona, and they were from great vintages like ‘04, ‘06 and ‘07. (see my notes here on CT)
I somehow lost track of them over the past decade. Until I saw these bottles at a local winestore where they rarely offer wines in this price range. So, I coildn’t resist to try some!

This wine is clearly quite young and needed a fair bit of time in the glass to open up. After 2-3 hours it was slowly becoming aproachable.

Medium red/crimson color. Expressive aroma’s of blackcurrant, sottobosco and some tobacco. Full bodied with silky, mouth coating tannins and some fresh acidity. A long finish that follows through seamlessly.
Less refined and complex than I remember Galatrona to be, in particular the epic 2004 vintage. A bit bolder and dense instead. Perhaps it will improve over time. It certainly has the structure to last for quite a few more years. Much more so than usually is the case with a 100% Merlot.

  • Full bodied, full mid palate, balanced, smooth, satisfying, blueberry, some flower in retro-nasal.
