  • This wine is made in a modern style with sweet, ripe, round fruit and low tannins. I think aging in small barrels instead of large botti is the heart of the difference from traditional Brunello. Both styles are good; they’re just very different. My guess is that most people, especially French wine drinkers, will prefer this style. The smooth cherry fruit and rosy aromas are delicious. There is some tobacco and herbs if you really sniff, but I think this wine’s virtue is its simple enjoyability.

I’m rather pleased that I guessed modern sangiovese tasting blind, but I guessed Chianti or even elsewhere in Italy. I’ve never tasted Brunello like this.

  • I decanted my Montosoli, and then I let it sit for three hours. The 2015 Altesino Montosoli is open for business. There is little tannin, and it is a very smooth drink. It is definitely better than the 2015 estate Brunello. A nice pour, but not outstanding. Is it worth $80 a bottle? Probably not.

  • Nice. Soft nose, brown purple hue. Soft smooth first Brunello burst - dry dark fruits cherries, hint of currant and chocolate. Dry earthy finish ling linger - ash, leather, earth. Drinking very well.

  • I made this mistake of pulling this from the cellar at 55° fifteen minutes before opening it and only giving it another ten minutes of air.

For the first fifteen minutes in the glass I thought the bottle was bad. Then after an additional 30-45 minutes it started to open up and show what it can be. The last glass was enjoyable and commensurate with the prior notes given on CT.

Don't make the same mistake. Give this 2+ hours of air or another 3-4 years of time in the bottle.
