Medium to light yellow color. Smoke, lemon, and a hint of S02 in the bouquet. Young and crisp white fruit flavor. Slightly tart finish indicates that this Chardonnay could use at least anothe 2 years of additional bottle age to reach its full potential. Nice long aftertaste. Excellent potential. Let this wine breathe a bit before consuming so the S02 can blow off.

My second of two bottles. PnP. (Much better than the last bottle, consumed roughly a year ago). My girlfriend bought lobsters, so this bottle was called upon. And it delivered. You have to hand it to Hansel. Their wines, and this is a perfect example, marry Burgundian elegance and food friendliness with opulent CA fruit and modest oak. So nuanced and balanced. Rich, opulent, balanced. Delicious. And fairly priced - wines for enjoying and sharing - not for collecting. As a certain wine critic might say, bravo! (92-93). [This, btw, was drinking better than the '18 Cuvee Alyce I had just recently. This was good from opening but was at peak about an hour and a half after opening, no decant.]

Absolutely delicious. Golden. Aromas of baked apples, almonds and white flowers. Medium-bodied, rich and satiny. Layers of ripe apples, some lemon and roasted almonds. Plenty of energy in the long, complex finish. Yes, this is "comfort" Chard, but delicious and at its peak!
