Barolo in St Helena (St Helena, CA): Nose of sweet cherry, rose petal, tar, initially quite lovely, adding some funky, slightly lactic notes as it sits in the glass. Flavors of sour cherry, iron filings, sweet anise, quite young and fresh, but tighter and more monolithic than the nose. Tannic, though quite approachable. Retasted after a few hours, this had opened up wonderfully on the palate, with dense layers of sour cherry, earth, violets and sweet anise. For current drinking a 2 hour decant should do wonders. My 2/4 for the flight, group's 3/4.
