Community Tasting Notes (7) Avg Score: 90.3 points

  • Nice, yet not special burgundy. Mature ruby color to clear at rim. The nose is a winner: meaty, earthy, red fruited. Good punch yet fruit is a bit reticent. The oak treatment has outlasted the fruit creating a slightly bitter finish. There is good here but not special especially for a grand cru. Not my favorite style. (88)

  • Medium ruby with a light orange rim. Oak spiced nose supports warm fruit - has a full, beefy quality. Palate again shows oak influence but there is nice fruit and good depth. I will drink the other bottles soon as the fruit is balanced with the structure. (90)

  • Absolutely pristine bottle. Clear, medium ruby color to the rim. Lovely nose of bright red fruits just beginning to pick up some secondary characteristics of sous-bois and a hint of stewed tomato - pretty classic pinot. Nice red cherry and cassis with some minerality on the palate.Good acidity, too. However, lacking a bit in grip and intensity to garner a higher score. Decent length, but a bit light in the mid-palate for me and, ultimately, a bit simple. Would like more complexity in a Grand Cru and at this price point.

  • Great bottle of wine. Might be that it was the first drink I had after driving through a snowstorm on the PA turnpike. Regardless, had appreciable fruit on the nose with a long finish. Cherries, cassis. Looking forward to drinking my remaining 2 bottles soon. Seems to be showing nicely now and I won't let the window pass.

  • spinning capsule. bleached cork. small amount of wine along side of cork (perhaps 1 cm). color: somewhat opaque, slightly bricked, no vibrancy at all nose: lackluster, almost nothing but alcohol detectable. taste: slight taste of sherry (oxidation), and no fruit at all.
Seems like a classic corked bottle, with some slight oxidation, and even some other flaw ( deterioration due to cork failure?) when considering that the wine was not clear. Tasted the same initial pour three times over an hour - no change. Will try again later today and report any differences if found.
First bad bottle of all wines sourced directly from NBWI. And it was corked, along with probably cork failure. A tribute to NBWI's continued flawless record for proper temperature handling of wines. I almost don't want to ask for a refund, so much do I appreciate the care this firm uses when handling wines.
