  • From bottle, not stored amazingly well, and I worried this may have died by now. Bright gold. Not dark. Lovely so, so fresh bouquet. And no oxidation. Petrol, flowers, buttered toast and brioche, perhaps slightly rieslingy, delicate melon or apricots, but not powerful or arresting. Is that the merest hint of baked figs (!). Developing with air and not staying still. Nice. All very light and delicate and coy. Palate delightful wispy freshness again (some may say "watery" but they would be wrong wrong), overlaid with just the right amount of buttery fat, with a nice grip coming in mid-end palate and a lingering smoky, fruity, entirely graceful finish. This is an entirely delightful and captivating, though cool white wine, and not at all like most Provencal/Rhone white wines with their full, buttery exoticism, although I am inexperienced with this style. 92-93+ for sure. Excellent.

  • A note two years ago on a half of the 05 flagged the fact that I suspected this wouldn't be a long lived Simone. This bottle confirms it. Full coloured and rich now to the point of over- ripeness. Based on this bottle needs drinking. What has happened to the long lived Simones of the past?

  • IMO Ch.Simone has been making one of the finest whites in Mediterranean France for several decades, although recently there are an increasing number of challengers in Provence, Languedoc and Roussillon. This bottle lived up to its reputation. It was showing considerable complexity and breed with gently burnished notes of wax, discreet exotic fruit and acacia on a medium bodied palate with good length, gentle fruit and minerals, smooth/lively acidity and some backbone. The overall effect was elegant and classy and it was a superb pairing for locally caught lobster. Excellent.
